Her life transformed by the beautiful game,

In this world of strategy, Beth Harmon was first amongst equals,

A chess prodigy elevated to great acclaim.

A female in the male world of chess,

Her incredible skills promoted her to the chess elite,

The lonely orphaned girl had come a long way from her humble beginnings,

Beth Harmon, chess legend with the world at her feet.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I have discovered Chess during lockdown and I have been playing it a short while. Netflix has just released The Queens Gambit about a female chess prodigy which I am enjoying. Incredible and wonderful here is my tribute to The Queens Gambit.

    A fine write FB.
    It struck me the other day, how chess is a battle game - knights, rooks/castles included. Are most of us pawns, or prawns? lol. Moving castles eh? That would be different in real battles!

          I have often wondered why we tend to associate chess with males when everyone knows that tis the ladies who can think strategically from beginning to end .... I may need too check that film out ....
