All my life I have heard the piece,
That piece of jazz called Take Five.
Heard played by Dave Clark,
Seen him play it,
Seen Nigel Kennedy play it,
I know it almost note for note.
One of my friends plays it
But in all that long time
Throughout my long life
I had never heard it played like this,
Where the five notes in a bar
Was played as four notes in a bar,
My foot kept on trying to tap five
But it got confused,
Totally confused.
I managed it eventually
And once more came to realise,
That there is so much music out there,
But such little time to listen to it all.

- Comment from author about the poem: Take Five has been with me for 61 years of my life, my father enjoyed jazz and got the record and I have heard, known and loved that piece for all that time but I have never heard it played like this, it is great.

Some hymn somehow kept missing out the first word of each line for some reason. Maybe they were in a hurry to get home from church. It threw them metres into confusion!
When the new Methodist Hymn Book came out many of the harmonies were changed, I asked one of the organisers of the book who was visiting our church why this had happened and he said "Money! We could not pay the people who were insistent on changing the harmonies, they would not earn their 50p.

Hi Andy,
A lovely poem.
Thank you.
I was listening to the late photographer Terry O Neill's interview on Desert Island Discs the other day.
If he hadnt been a photographer he would have been a jazz musician that was his earliest ambition.
Keep writing ✍ and safe during these challenging times.
