Tune: Passion Chorale
('O sacred head, sore wounded')
Isaiah 53 v.1-6
**********
Who has believed our report
Heard of it, has been taught?
To whom is the LORD's power
Revealed now in this hour?
Christ the suffering servant
He God the Father's Son
Grows up as a plant tender
With Father's will concurs
And as a root from dry ground
No form, comeliness found
But plain, and beautifully
He shall not appear, see
He not desired naturally
Despised, rejected be
Man of sorrows, grief knowing
We hid from His showing
But surely He our griefs ill
Has borne, as Father wills
Carried our sorrows and pains
That in Him life we gain
Though we did count Him stricken
Oppressed by God and men
Yet He wounded for our sins
To cleanse us from within
And He bruised, pierced for us too
On the cross Him we view
He chastised was for our peace
To bring us our release
Our salvation, though He be
Beaten, afflicted, see
We like sheep lost in our wat
Still Christ does for us pray
