2020 really has been an ANNUS HORRIBILIS for the Whole Human Race due to the Pandemic Coronavirus ~ COVID 19. New words like LOCKDOWN have come & gone. Its almost DECEMBER and still the Oxford English Dictionary has not been able to decide on the Definitive Word for the *Enigmatic Year 2020* Love Angela & Brian & Smokey ! ! !
The English Oxford Dictionary is really in DESPAIR
It likes to find a SPECIAL WORD to define each YEAR
But in TWENTY - TWENTY the Winners Plinth is EMPTY
NOT ONE but several WORDS ~ still under scrutiny I FEAR !
*Axis of Guilt* It was the WORD in TWO O O TWO
In TWO O O EIGHT the TWO WORDS *Credit Crunch* made it through
But alas for poor old TWENTY - TWENTY
The Word Cupboards are too FULL & never EMPTY
COVID 19 has replaced ~ C O R O N A V I R U S
R Numbers - Social Distancing - they mock & deride us
Vacations morphed to *Staycations* due to tra*vel restriction
LOCKDOWN became a part ~ of our everyday diction !
LOCKDOWN chosen by COLLINS ~ so we all applauded
Toasted in QUARANTINIS ~ from the booze that we had hoarded
GLOBAL CO2 dropped ~ LOCKDOWN was the cause
And it spawned a New Word ANTHROP-OCENE-PAUSE !
ZOOM described the Meetings ~ taking place on LINE
BORIS used this method for PM*s Question Time !
PPE*s Protective Clothing ~ as worn by all the MEDICS
What ONE WORD would You choose ? To define this D * M * PANDEMIC

FOR A WORD TO BE CHOSEN BY THE OED AS *Word of the Year* it must be a NEW WORD ~ frequently used ~ that is prompted by the SOCIOPOLITICAL CIRCUMSTANCES the of the YEAR. This is why COLLINS chose *LOCKDOWN* and that would be our choice as well ! Previous use (already in Dictionary) would exclude CORONAVIRUS & ZOOM etc etc.

PESTLENCE or PLAGUE is a Biblical Word that comes to mind - more *Down to Earth* than PANDEMIC and I think ARMAGEDDON comes later. In discussion I do stress that COVID 19 - which originated in WUHAN due to the use of UNHYGENIC LIVE MEAT - ie an ANTHROPOGENIC (MAN MADE) catastrophe not Divine Judgement ! However had they used KOSHER FOOD HYGEINE RULES it would never have happened !

Hi Ange - Was meant to be encouraging but had elements of irony too (you understand irony, don't you? You are on the right side of the pond to do so - it's the mob on the other side that supposedly don't!).
It's just that sometimes I get bogged down in the proliferation of different ideas (believe it or not, many contestable) and biblical references, which for me, obscure other components of your expositions which may in fact be quite valid.
I could quite conceivably be wrong - in which case, I'll seek my satisfactions elsewhere.

Good MITWOK Uncle Steve - ANGELA HERE ! A PANDEMIC like COVID 19 has challenged all Global Philosophies & Religions. My prognosis - as a Christian & a Medic - would be that it is a MAN-MADE PLAGUE caused by lack of *Food Hygiene* and Man (Virologists) have to find an ANSWER in a VACCINE. Our PRAYER is that GOD will enable us to PRODUCE enough VACCINE for the wole Human Race and the abillity to administer it and that by 2022 we will have this particular CORONAVIRUS under control - as we now have FLU ~ AMEN !

The C 18 Pandemic has hit Planet Earth between the eyes and spawned so so many words of shock & horror to describe it ~ not just in English but in every known LANGUAGE. Angela & I still prefer *LOCKDOWN* ~ A forced curbing of all normal Social & Communal Activities. This has most affected Seniors & Shut-ins but also the Socialising under 40s as well. We are 37 & 32 and have only been married 8 months !

Buenas Tardes Romnatica ~ Como estes ahora ? Yes we had Turkey Casserole & Pumpkin Pie for Dinner (7pm) tonight washed down with Nappa Valley Rose ~ to clebrate the First Harvest in 1621. Amazingly the Pilgim Fathers (Puritans) got on well with the Native Americans who introduced them to Turkeys & Pumpkins ! Its a pity the relationship between the Colonists & the Native Americans could last forever !

Thanks for your comment Robert pleased you enjoyed it. However We are well aware the COVID Vaccine (like FLU Vaccine) will only make us immune for a short period and will not erradicate COVID 19 ! So - like Flu Vaccine - we may nee annual COVID 19 Jabs !
