Tune: St Cecilia
('They kingdom come, O God')
Psalm 81 v.13-16
**********
O that my people, they
Had inclined to my ways
And hearkened unto me
I would have helped them, see
I soon should have subdued
Their enemies, renewed
Them, and too turned my hand
Against oppressors band
Those who the LORD does hate
Should soon, it not be late
They soon sure would submit
To Him, so it be fit
Then the LORD's people, they
Would have endured alway
And He would have them fed
To plenty water led
Fed as with finest wheat
And honey, it sweet treat
I the LORD your rock be
Shall satisfy full, free

This LORD fellah, i thought he was supposed to be the god of love and now you write about those he hates. I ave never seen any writing which says the LORD hates anyone have you? This seems like yet another dual standard in christianity. God of love or god of hate?
Thanks dusk. It's from the Psalms. They're not all sweet and nice.
Who wrote it? You have to admit its a contradiction to the 'good guy' image of god most scriptures sell us.
King David maybe, or one of those around in his days. There's worse though, e.g. they ask in one Psalm (137) that their enemies be treated the same as they have been treated by them. Such as 'Happy will he/she be, who takes your little children, and cast them against stones' i.e. murders babies! But it's out of the appeal for justice.
Some bits are left of out of some Service books as 'embarrassing' or 'too violent'.
LOL it's a mish mash when you look closer.
We can't really say its all 'love and sweetness' in the New Testament either, as there are also passages about judgement, hypocrites, people being called 'you brood of vipers', you snakes, etc! But the merciful, loving side 'wins out' in the New Testament, I think.
Yes, that is the overall view of the tyeachings i knew. Hatred from the lord therefore to me is a contradiction. Forgiveness and hatred do not go together and forgiving was the teaching - turn the other cheek etc.
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
