cookie jar

dusk arising

here i am in your arms
sometimes i wonder why
could hold on to you for ever
but sometimes you see me cry
its not that i would ever leave you
you know you'll never have to ask me why
there's a distant place i try to hide away
but its there when i look in your eyes

you know that i will never ever walk away
from what remains of my yesterday
some things remain a major part in my life
hard for me to find the words to say
tears are the price we pay
for the love i see in my little boys eyes

sometimes i look at you
can't believe this thing we are
you're everything i want to do
my heart is here in your arms
i know you always give me time to be
and you know i'll never wander far
everytime i walk back thru the door
you feed me candy, like you're my cookie jar

you know that i will never walk away
             from what was yesterday
some things remain a major part of my life
hard for me to find the words to say
tears are the price we pay
for the love i see in my little boys eyes

  • Comment from author about the poem: Revisting again today something from a while ago. This is about parental love after a marriage has failed and the trauma of only seeing ones little ones for a few hours each week together with the strain it can place upon a new relationship. This was always in need of a re-write but i ignored the temptation lest i remove any rawness of emotions. It is addressed to ones new partner which i state because some have read it as being addressed to the child.

I love the way these words seem to bleed down the page on which you have pinned them DA ...

I totally get what you mean in your authors note about any tweaks you thought were necessary ..and for what its worth, I reckon you pulled it off ..

pitched perfectly sir .. filled with sentimentality without being too mushy .. in my opinion at least ....
