Ring it Out! (A Christmas Song)

AuburnScribbler

Verse 1

Lights proudly boast; their twinkling’s once more,

The snow comes down; making a slippery floor,

Though this year is muted, we still have to cheer,

There’s still so much to look forward to, so wipe away those tears.

Chorus

So, ring it out!

Let the bell toll for us, and loved ones who have gone,

Ring it out!

Let heaven hear our festive joyful song,

We’ve got to ring it out, to sing it out,

Be full of Christmas cheer,

Whatever you do, remember to shout,

Make sure you have the spirit to ring it out!

Verse 2

Time becomes our present; so together we’ll unwrap,

So, we can make merry again; as Santa reads his map,

Though this year is faulty, we still have to keep a hold,

On to all that is special, our own essential pots of gold.

Verse 3

We’ll all toast this year; with a thankful; recalling heart,

To those around us; and those on screen; who are apart,

Though this year has taken much, we’ve still got to live,

For there’s still so much to do, and still so much to give.

  • Comment from author about the poem: "So here it is, Merry Christmas!" Sorry to get the Slade classic in your head, but it is nearly that time of year again, so I thought I would write a song myself. Musically, I would imagine it to be indie rock/hard rock (edging towards something sounding like Andrew WK), with perhaps a guitar solo after the second verse, and of course the obligatory inclusion of sleigh bells; to underline the fact that it is Christmas. It has been a hard year for everyone, but as I've said in a previous post, Christmas has been around a lot longer than Covid, so we've still got to Ring it Out! Hope you enjoy, and please do take care; both now, and over the festive period.

I totally agree with you, new songs that celebrate goodness and togetherness are vital in this hard time, and I like your breakdown and understanding of the structure of my song.

"For there’s still so much to do, and still so much to give." so true Ben, the New Year will be full of love and joy.

I agree with you Andy when I wrote that particular line, it made so much sense to include it in the song.

Let's hope 2021 is a vast improvement of the horror that was (and still is for a short while) 2020.

Take care, and hope that you have a safe and Merry Christmas.
