Thank You

SheWasTheSun

Thank you

for counter top kisses

And Spotify playlists

Santa Fe

And drives on Sundays

evening phone calls

and Colorado waterfalls

our very first night

back seat kisses under a starry sky

and our second first night

pancakes and pink wine

Thank you

for I-17 drives

And that sunflower surprise

mindless back scratches

and baked cookie batches

Tipsy conversations

filled with revelations

Drive-thru dinners

and interlaced fingers

downtown butterflies

that just might span a lifetime

You are not my heart string

And we are not the real thing

You poisoned my soul

And I left yours with holes

But we had moments

That can never be taken

Moments that anchor our story

When the heartache leaves it shaken

So I will wrap these moments

In my finest paper

tie them up with ribbons

To keep them a little safer

And I will hold them for you

Should you need a reason to continue

For even between our poison and our holes

There are reasons to say

thank you
