Bedtime for tiny tots

dusk arising

when time floats over like a breeze
and tickles those sensive furry hairs
on the backs of green leaves
   and
the moon knows readyness for games to play
out in that twirl of the wilderness wild
when lush green forests have ended their day
now
you and i may wander the path to otherworld
where the flowers sing sweet harmonies
to footsteps of good boys and girls
   seeing
sweet fairys fly low on trails of starlight
whilst caterpillers all sing the song
of a special magic, just for tonight
as
Millie-woo the wood nymph lands at your feet
to fly you throught her wonderland
lucky you, a rare and special treat
    ooh
now up and away to cheers from below
    as her fluffy wings flutter
who knows where we shall go
weee
above all the woodmice waving up at you
squirrels on their branches chirp
and the cuckoo calls out cuck cuck-koo

.              are you ready
.                 hold tight
.                      because

The trees want to play their games with you
swishing branches as you fly
a game enjoyed by oh so few
who come here in the night

they like to see your smiling face
and tickle you with their leaves
tickling you in that tickle-y place
tickling you under your sleeves

all that giggling and so much wriggling
Milie-woo flies you out of the woods
in her eye she sees something glistening
lets go see something so good

out in the meadow the snails form a ring
for two hedgehogs to dance the foxtrot
the bees are all singing, the blue bells are ringing
to the howl of the collie dog spot.

the clever moon now peeps an eye
above cotton wool clouds in the sky
for with the tinkling-tink of windy wind chimes
the dandelion has told us the time

all the dancing and singing dies down
as the squirrels now all start to yawn
For it's time now to wear a sleepy head crown
and be ready again for the dawn

  • Comment from author about the poem: I dont know where this came from, maybe its cos i think of my grandchildrens tender years and something wonderful about the innocence of those years takes over. Anyway i wrote this, this morning .... not perfect, but what is?

Perfectly done for me, what an awesome trip of pure Innocence and love this comes from... I will definitely read again, part of me wants to pen my own then the other part say "just read, you are home"

Thank you my friend for the soulful words you always post!

  • dusk arising

Dan thanks mate, one for Maarii when she's a little bit older perhaps..... i just altered the ending so it reads better.

    Oohh yes, perfect write dusk.
I wrote one me self (did I?) - though I was senile, or a in 'a senior moment' heehee.

    • dusk arising

You should publish nonsense poems Orchidee, I do it all the time.

Darling write! I think you should write for Disney! I can see this as a animated cartoon

      • dusk arising

You have great vision and i doubt Disney want me. Thanks for reading and leaving a great comment.

a wonderous journey upon your stream of consciousness Dusk, but my how poetic you narrate mere mortal thought's - oh gifted Poet,
even more beautiful a write for its unvarnished aspects of brave transparency,
        thanks for sharing my friend

        • dusk arising

I should have devoted more time to it. I think it needs a re-write but nonetheless it was a fun thing to do though i was very tired having been up al night. Imagining kiddies faces and interest in such silly stories is enthralling though.

          Wonderful write dusk!

          • dusk arising

            Thank you, you're very kind.

            • dusk arising

I bet you have a few nursery type stories in you Jerry.... have you written any for tiny tots? If not, have a go and lets see... i promise you they are fun to write, but i'm no expert just a dumb poet.

Wow, I love it. Thank you,

              • dusk arising

And thank you too.... do you write for kiddies sometimes too?

              • Doggerel Dave

Great one, Dusk. Took me back (way back) to that time of innocence (yes - an extremely long time ago).
Beyond the material, the construction must have taken much effort - worthwhile though.
Needs to be in book form, read at bedtime to young 'uns.

I have tried a couple of times to write for kiddies and posted here on MPS. They're really good fun to do when in the right frame of mind.
Thanks for looking in and commenting.

I don't know anything about publishing, so I should probably shut up!
However it does occur to me that another MPS member does illustrations.....

What a wonderful write d a, the glory of grandchildren is so wonderful.
                    As the saying goes:

"If I had known that grandchildren could be so wonderful I would have had them first!"

I hope to get into the right frame of mind to write some more and read them to my granddaughters. Roll on times when we can al socialise again eh?

                    • Neville

this is a splendid example of a perfectly pitched fairy-tale for both young uns and us growed ups alike ... I can see where the inspiration came from my friend and if I had any, I would not hesitate to read this to my grand children .......... in fact, I can imagine reading it to kids would be almost as much fun as hearing it through their ears .. if ya know what I mean ...

                      Neville

                      • dusk arising

You're an accomplished poet Neville so why not write some silly nonsense for tiny tots, it's fun. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for leaving a smashing comment.

                        • Neville
