52 Festive Road

AuburnScribbler

In general, it’s a weird concept,

To say “time to dress up the house”,

Trying to make the cement sentient,

In order to celebrate the sentiment,

That is Christmas, or perhaps

Another occasion, where merriment

Thrives and with nebulous eyes,

If you look properly, you will see,

That your home gets to dance,

In the party frock, you have bought it.

I’m no different, so I join the throng,

To deck the halls accordingly, and

Make my precious bricks and mortar,

Into something more pertinently beautiful,

So, when I look around, I see that I’m

Lost in familiar surroundings, and with

A warm heart, mind and soul, I look with

Tipsy eyes, watching such a spectacle,

Which is my loving lodging swoon to

The soundtrack of the seasonal feast.

  • Comment from author about the poem: For those who are not from the UK, or simply do not know, 52 Festive Road is also the address of Mr Benn, an animated classic series in the UK, where a man goes on an array of adventures via a fancy dress/cosplay shop. But what if you reversed something, instead of the man dressing up, how about the house itself... so, this "festive" poem is a celebration of the different guises our houses go through, in order to look good for seasonal adventures. I hope that you enjoy it, and please do take care.

Yeah, was a favourite of both mine and my sister's, Mr Benn. If my memory serves me well, her favourite episode was "The Magician/Wizard", however, I can't pick.

Thanks for the kind words, I will do, and you keep it up the good work as well.

        Stay safe!

Good words Ben, I am sure your house will be very welcoming so I will bring a bottle of Rioja with me.

Thanks, Andy, hope all is well.

Hmmm, Rioja? A very nice bottle indeed, and I will reciprocate your kindness, by bringing a bottle of Sherry to yours, Croft Original most likely.

          Thanks again, and stay safe!
