Tune: Personent Hodie
('Long ago, prophets knew')
Matthew 1 v.18-25 parts
**************
Now the birth of Jesus
Is recorded for us
Matthew writes, these his words
Mary was with child by
The Holy Spirit nigh
Chorus
Fulfilled prophecy
A virgin would, see
Be with child, they shall call
His name Emmanuel
Angle to Joseph said
Her betrothed, thus he led
In a dream,angel showed
That he should then fear not
To take Mary, his lot - Chorus
For child conceived in her
Is by the Spirit sure
There good tidings revealed
She would bring forth a son
JESUS, to save each one - Chorus
For He shall His people
Save them from their sins all
God in human form shown
Yet He be divine too
Comes to make all things new - Chorus
Isaiah's prophecy
Of these things, they would be
Sure to pass, God's own words
Joseph then did awake
Mary as wife did take - Chorus

Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.

An excellent write celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus.
Keep writing and safe during these challenging times.

Thanks Fine.
Did you know that joseph had to talk the locals out of stoning mary to death for becoming pregnant out of wedlock.... stoning of an unmarried pregnant woman being the tradition in those parts at that time.
I can't remember where i picked up this piece of info but it doesn't take much stretching of the imagination to see that it is authentic.
Thanks dusk. I can see how we may miss some of the human elements in stories like this. Such as 'And where does that leave him/her/us?' etc.
"When truth and legend collide, stay with the legend." Daniel Boone
Did you plan it this way Steven? If ya did squire, this is very clever.........
Thanks Neville. I take it a a fulfilled prophecy, as in the poem.
.................................................... Oooops, I meant the middle line not rhyming with any of the others 🙂
Ahh, I see. Well nope. I couldn't decide whether to try to make it AAABB or AABBB rhyming. I ended up doing neither. It's AABCC. This all looks like algebra!
If there's a story about stoning Mary in a pseudepigraphic gospel - one of the many that didn't make the canon of the New Testament - I don't know it, and couldn't find it with Google.
Thanks Robert. I can't trace this particularly of Mary, but I can see how it would have been a practice of ye olden days. None bat an eyelid over it these days, except very strict ones.
Very Nice Orchi.
Thanks Jerry.
