Well the day has come,
As I knew it would,
That day to remember,
One year ago today
When I sat by her side
As her last breath flowed
And the Light of her world
Left her body,
Left my body.
I sat beside her in tears,
The Love of my life had passed,
Passed from this earth.
Our Love had never faltered
From that day we met
Until this moment.
But my Love for her
Will never fail
As she is still with me,
With me every moment.
I know that we will be together,
Be together when my Light goes out,
Goes out in this world,
Only to combine with,
With her Bright Light
That is above me.
That Light of both of us
Will be carried in such brightness,
In such brightness and love
By Our Spirit for Eternity,
And it will never fade,
Only get brighter,
As each glorious moment
Of our lives back together
Travel in Infinity.

- Comment from author about the poem: A year ago today, 30/12/2020, my wife Joyce passed away. She had been suffering from dementia for some years when she parted from this earth in one way it was a release for both of us. I you have never lived 24/7 with someone who has dementia you have no idea what it is like. My love for her will never, ever fail.

Well, what a year 2020 has thrown at you Goldfinch. Along with your sad loss you've had to put up with such restrictions on social contact which can't have been easy for you are an outgoing soul. You were establishing yourself in croquet circles till pandemic put the brakes on that. Yes, it will re-start I'm sure, meanwhile - music, the river, people watching poetry, appreciation of bad drivers, and what else.... oh yes, you no longer have to worry about brexit and those remoaners.... a weight lifted from us all.
Wishing you a safe and healthy new year and plenty more to follow.
Thank you d a, yes it is a sad loss but I know she is there for me.
All will restart and some has never been stopped, especially music, I even picked up the clarinet again, I daren't go back to the trumpet yet as I don't want to annoy the neighbours too much.
Have a good New Year my friend and may there be many more to follow as well.
Andy
A poignant write Gold.
Meanwhile - a fabulous year for some - no singing allowed in some places. Hooray, they say, we won't hear ya! Doh!
Thank you Orchi, yes a great year to come.

I do not think I will be exaggerating, if I say that the unity of sorrowfulness and the unshakable belief in these lines, if it is truly felt and understood, will be able to shake Heaven and Earth.
Thank you for those words Samer, I totally agree with you.

'When I sat by her side
As her last breath flowed
And the Light of her world
Left her body,
Left my body.'
heart wrenchingly relatable, I have read your words more than 3 times now, each time I paused for a few minutes before restarting...
I shall remember the Joyce you introduced to me with your kind words, as I toast all the good still remaining in our lives...
let your inked words soak-up all that pain you bare so bravely,
a wonderful dedication Andy and a brilliant read!
Thank you Mek for your wonderfully kind words, they mean so much to me my friend.
