New year

Tom Campbell

This year has been a long hard slog , the worst in all my years

With Corona virus going strong it was bound to end in TIERS

we need to thank the NHS and all the front line staff that kept on going, served us well and helped us on our path

Our path is looking stronger now the vaccine has been made

And for all the people lost this year our tributes will be paid

Seventy thousand deaths to date deserve respect and honour

Its even took some household names like dear old Des O'Connor

Barbara Windsor slipped away she slowly lost her flair

Hevens never had such fun , a right old Carry on up there

Lets not forget Sean Connery who passed away this year

Anyone that loved James Bond has surely shed a tear

Another Annus Horribilis and the world is full of tension

Its only fair when looking back our Captain gets a mention

There wasn't many highs this year, infact it's been quite glum

So with all the loss and loneliness thank god for Captain Tom

Its been lockdown after lockdown with restrictions still in place

and you can't go inside anywhere without a mask upon your face

We're all in need of holidays, jet off and get some sun

Maybe next year we can go all out with news that Brexit's done

The finally reached a trade deal, announced on Christmas Eve, so glad that Boris came up trumps with something up his sleaze

Donald Trump's out on his ear as the recount can reveal

and the White House grass will need repair from digging in his heal

It seems we're making progress, we can see an end in sight, and what would we all give right now for a good old OUT OUT night

Its New Year's Eve and all is calm, far to calm for me

i think I'll have an early night with a lovely cup of tea

Happy new year everyone let's hope it is in fact, and hope that by the summertime our pubs will all be packed

and shops in town will open up and stop their business fading, unlock the doors and look ahead and continue with their trading

We really shouldn't drop our guard, let's keep social contact banned

And please don't be offended if I don't hug or shake your hand

    A fine write Tom.
Well, some blessings in disguise? Trump's gone. There's one of them!

Wonderful words Tom and so true. This year will be better and hopefully we will be able to shake someone's hand.

    Welcome to MPS.

Well, covid provided the motive for a rattling good piece of verse.
    Many thanks.
