Tune: Cranham
('In the bleak midwinter')
**********
Carolling at Christmas
Joyful tunes 'tis this
Tell of babe born, stable
Meek and lowly all
Bethlehem, little town
Now of great renown
God in flesh comes to you
Worship Him anew
Babe grows, boy to a man
To follow God's plan
He e'er set to do still
Of His Father's will
He born ot the Spirit
Obeys every whit
Joseph, Mary, parents
Earthly, true is this
Light of the world, Dayspring
Salvation does bring
Dawn follows with day bright
Banishes dark night
Teaching, preaching, healing
Good news in each thing
Still your people witness
Of eternal bliss

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.5.6.5. 6.5.6.5. metre. I have made the last line of each verse into 5 syllables. Only 3 syllables in the original hymn. It may not have been a bleak midwinter time. Then of course the 'first Christmas' may not have been Dec 25th. In Jerusalem today it is 16C - hardly Winter, but Winter for us in the UK.

I can sing the first verse of this.
Note the typo in the third verse: dawn?
