Emotional Art.

Goldfinch60

I listen to music,

I look at paintings,

And so many times I am drawn ,

Drawn into them,

Wondering why it was written,

Or why it was painted.

But then I realise

That any art

Is not there for understanding,

It is there to create emotion,

Create emotion within me,

And those emotions

Become part of my life.

    Good write Gold.
I started clearing up what I thought was a pile of rubbish at an Art Show. Someone said 'Oh, that's an exhibit!' Doh!

    • Goldfinch60

You didn't make that bed as well did you!

Yes, I tried to make that bed - it looked untidy! lol.
Any art from 1066 that is emotional? We are in the Bayeux Tapestry, us two.

That bed should have been cleared, the sheets laundered and the rest fumigated. I'm not passing judgement on prior activity related to the bed, only it's age. Never mind - she's done some good stuff. As someone who reveres the peace and tranquility that (mostly) exist in the galleries I visit, and my chance to view the works they house, I'd argue that if a work grabs you , hang in there, if not move swiftly on, Same rule as applies to poetry here, books and whatever.
BTW It's been argued that for the secular among us, art galleries are a church substitute. Thoughts?

I totally agree that id a piece of art grabs you no matter what others say it is your choice.

Art galleries are visions of emotion and have many meanings a church has only one meaning.

You are quite write Andy .. they aint just words on a page or strokes of paint on a canvas ... they serve a much greater purpose .... made me think long and hard on the subject this mane, so ya did .......

            • Goldfinch60

Thank you Neville, so true, I have spent all my lifetime listening to music and get lost in it. Equally when ever I go into an art gallery I always end up being in another world, I am a member of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and I could spend my life there. The emotion that art can bring to me is almost surreal.

Yes, the artist/songwriter/poet gives us the materials arranged in a way that we use our life experience to create a meaningful interpretation, a picture if you will. I am learning to do this myself using just enough information to tease my reader into the desired frame of picture making mind.

Yesterday I commented upon Neville's ability to do this with regularity, he's very good.

              • Doggerel Dave

You are loosing me, dusk: I have a very pedestrian mind, and comprehension has just flown out of the window.

                Dave

Those 'materials' give us so many emotions d a, at least they do me.

Doggerel Dave, I was commenting to Goldfinch who I knew would understand where I was coming from with this.

                    • Doggerel Dave

Apologies, dusk arising. Sorry for interrupting - I'll try not to do it again. (no absolute guarantees, though...) 🙂

                      Art stalks the heart

                      • Goldfinch60

                        So very true Jerry.

The creative urge, found it late in life.
Truly separates humanity from the rest!
                          Nice observations.

                          • Goldfinch60

                            It surely does John.

Another well written poem. Thank you for sharing.

                              Thank you Trenz, much appreciated.
