Comforting Companion

orchidee

Tune: Sandys

('Teach me, My God, and King')

*******

O Lord, you will revive

When we with troubles strive

Will hear simple prayers, you know all

E'en before we do call

But you do us invite

To pray, and in your sight

We blessed be, continue to know

Good things wihich you us show

Never alone, but you

Come, comfort us anew

Words in season strengthen, uphold

Your sheep within your fold

Grant us some thought, that we

Not dry or barren be

Some thought new or old, so commune

We with you, keep in tune

Thought of you, your our Lord

And your life-giving word

You impart to us, and Christ He

Your Word true ever be

Whether in midst of storm

Or calm and cosy, warm

In darkest night or brightest light

Yet you still our delight

You Father heavenly

To us, how can this be?

To all believing in your Son

He saves, has our hearts won

Forgive where we forget

And may struggle on yet

Help us recall your presence, seek

You lowly in heart, meek

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.6.8.6. metre. I wrote this after a comforting e-mail from a Minister, to the congregation, of help through life's storms, physically and spiritually. Not to forget basic prayer and meditation, needing not to be all complicated or involved. Our forgetfulness may be apathy at times, just 'not bothering' one way or the other, so doing nothing.

Another Minister I know, thinks that in this current 'plague' Church leaders are partly responsible - caught up in 'religious' rites and rules too much.
Well, that includes him himself then. It can seem like 'The [insert name of Minister] Show' when he is there'. Doh!
    You a sheep? Baaa!

.. any good news, support and/or companionship during these difficult times must be of some comfort ... I seriously feel for all those who have no-one ...

Thanks Neville. Yes - including simple prayers and/or meditation (verse 1). Some, including me at times, may think 'Oh, it'll be difficult; do I have to?; it's boring'; etc.

Good one Orchi, but on this day, the anniversary of Joyce's funeral I know the he wasn't there for us.

Thanks Gold. I understand. I can't answer: What about those two women at a church? - special prayer said, etc - though they fell to c....... One reply is 'The good going first', but that may not be a lot of help to those left behind.

Beautiful heavenly words. Sometimes I am not sure if I'm praying correctly but I know as long as you mean it from your heart is what matters to the great Lord. Appreciating life and it's humble love. Thanks for sharing 🤗

Thanks Nancy. Sometimes prayers may be too vague or 'general'. As if God may say to us: 'But what is it you DO want/need exactly?!'

Just a healthy life to do all I need for my daughter.
