Phoenix

SheWasTheSun

I will not apologize

For how I choose to rise

From the ashes you left

And tried to collect

After you burned me to the ground

And I didn’t make a sound

Why am I always the love of your life

Once I’m completely black and blue inside

Why is everything your fault

Once I finally get up the nerve to bolt

I will not apologize

For a single one of those Phoenix nights

Under glaring street lights

I cried in my car all night

Just to get out of your sight

A phoenix does not apologize

For how they choose to rise

So I’ll sit atop my mountain

And spend my time counting

The reasons I left your valley

As if I could even tally

All the scars you left on my mind

All the hours of wasted time

Three years is a long time to burn

But three years is a long time to learn

And so instead of an apology

You get a chapter in my mythology

I will not apologize

For how I choose to rise

From the ashes you left

For me to collect

May you rise from those ashes to find a wonderful new life that will be there awaiting you.

wat a wonderful gift you've chosen to share,
    of brutally learnt wisdom, versed
    so transcendentally brilliant!

      Keep rising
