The Eighth Trumpet.

Goldfinch60

The seventh trumpet has sounded

From Orchi’s religious words,

But now the eighth trumpet will sound,

As I blow my horn

To drown out the wailing

That comes from Orchi’s lungs.

I have been trying to drown that sound,

Drown it for millennia,

But still he screeches.

And the louder he sings,

The louder I have to play.

Bless your ears and bless Orchi too for though i may attack his postings occasionally, he is blessed with the wit to respond without taking that high and mighty 'how dare you stance' and has my respect, as do you.
Dizzy's horn is as good a horn to listen to as anyones and hails from the great 50's era of jazz's hey-day. No doubt you're aware too of Wynton marsallis who has moved the trumpet thru it's latest journey to our ears.
Yes, many greats along the way, your fav chet and miles to mention but two names who cannot be overlooked.

Very true d a, Orchi and I have known each other virtually for a very long time, we met on a previous poetry site that was destroyed by some obnoxious users on it

Yes that era of BeBop in the early fifties was a new era and Dizzy was amongst the best. I have a few Wynton Marsalis albums, both jazz and classical and he is another great trumpeter. He was on tv many years ago doing a sort of masterclass with upcoming trumpet players, one thing he said on that show was about Louis Armstrong, he said that Louis could do things with a trumpet that he, Wynton, could never achieve.

Louis Armstrong could do a one octave glissando and was accused of cheating to do this impossible task... so there and then he demonstrated it...... can you imagine how impossible that is on a 3 valve horn (valves giving 2 semitones,1 semitone and 3 semitones from, mouthpiece end)

I am with you all the way, Andy. If Lorelei would have heard orchie sing, she most likely would have jumped into the Rhine and drowned herself a second time.

Thank you Fred, I am sure that she would have jumped a second time if she had heard Orchi.
