My hobbie and me

heatherbee

You need that time just too escape the time you feel you could never make.

But now your day is of stress and pain you need that calm that something sane.

I mix i add i break an egg I know I really need my bed but no I carry on instead.

I know this baking day of mine will cost me lots not just in time.

As days in bed and hurt i will be but we will have a cake for tea.

Theres sponge theres cookies, brownies too a Boston tea party made all for you.

My family fed there tummies full there's lots of smiles and one big yum.

So off I go I climb my stairs the hurt the ache now more aware's I crawl into my familiar bed I can not wait to rest my head.

I know my hobbie is part of me it is the link that sets me free.

    Good write Heather.

Sometimes our hobbies become us. We become know as a baker etc with little else about our colourful lives being known or cared about.

Yup have to say my baking has made me more interesting to friends and family plus did it for a living so it was a huge part of me.

The things we do..... You said it well. My wife had a small bakery for years. She closed it and retired just before Covid started. Best decision ever! You say you did it for a living, so you know how different home baking and professional baking are.
But getting back to your poem. I like the way you write, your pain but also your feelings of accomplishment shine through.

Thankyou so much for your understanding yeah nowadays it's a cream tea for family or friends that I just about manage but not allowed to even enjoy that now so no enjoyment at all in baking. The feeling of handing over someones wedding or birthday cake was always special.

I too am passionate about cooking and can get completely lost in it so any problems that may be with me just seem to disappear.
During the first lockdown when we went out every Thursday to clap I started to bake bread for my neighbours and at one time was know as the baker of the street. I still make bread for others and if they are lucky they get homemade digestives, shortbread and ginger snaps.
I do hope that your pain eases Heather and that you can cook without pain but just with love.

        Andy
