Verse 1
Saturday night, at eight o’clock,
I know where I’m gonna be,
In front of my laptop screen,
To see those “angels” gleam,
But when the video call runs,
We’re not so very PG ~
But we all know that it’s banter,
So, we smile and we laugh with glee!
Chorus
Saturday night on the Facebook,
Who cares what games we play,
As long as you don’t talk Covid,
And you smile with us in harmony.
Verse 2
Who’s the card tzar? I will ask,
In cards against humanity,
We make flame like jokes that burn,
But remember it’s just fantasy,
The internet best behave,
As we’ve gotta see this night through ~
Though a good signal we’ve got, so fine,
So, let’s get back to the show.
Verse 3
The drinks are flowing into the night,
A good catch up we all have,
We reminisce with those old photos,
Of the good times, when we were bad,
Though with gritted teeth; we all do this,
For we miss the glory of the pub ~
But until then, this will have to do,
At least it’s something, so don’t be so glum.

- Comment from author about the poem: Obviously, a certain thing has changed dramatically during these lockdowns, and that thing is social contact, so here's a little song about the "video chat". I am lucky to be part of a group video chat, that usually happens on Saturdays. The song is obviously inspired by The Drifters classic "Saturday Night at the Movies", hope that you enjoy it, and as always, please stay safe everyone.

Hooray! Britain's Got Talent has been cancelled! What more could we want? Well, better telly on Saturday evenings for a start. We will be punished with more Ant & Dec, I bet.
I agree with you orchidee, talent shows do not reflect talent, they are just a repetition of the same acts, and the true winner of the show, isn't the one who's voted the winner, or the viewing public, it's one of the judges (and we all know who!) Alas, I think Ant and Dec have a new Saturday Night Takeaway to dish up for us, but in terms of the "rubbish TV", The Masked Singer, does have a certain charm to it! Hahaha! Hope all is well.
Agghh, I knew it. It's Ant & Dec again, to torture us on Saturday nights. Even 'Lorraine' is longer weekday mornings now. If you've not seen it - don't start. It'll torment you with boredom! lol.
A prisoner had to choose 10 years jail, or a week of Lorraine. He chose prison! They've got rid of Eamonn & Ruth. We now have a beached whale and Dreary O'Leary.
Yeah! Ant and Dec are back this Saturday I'm afraid, so I would turn over to watch a documentary if I were you, or you could choose to brave their "Geordie charm".
Again yeah, sometimes when I do wake up early, I do toggle between the "Breakfast" telly, and bless them, it's early and they are trying to be as entertaining and informative as possible, but sometimes it does fall flat (or to you, falls flat all of the time bless you, haha!) Just hope that the prisoner in question isn't forced to watch repeats of "The Jeremy Kyle Show" (where possibly he or she was once a guest! Haha!)
Reruns of Granada's version of Sherlock Holmes, with Jeremy Brett as Sherlock, are sometimes on at that time, either ITV3 or ITV4, just a suggestion for you.
Again, please do stay safe!
I can't stand Poirot with his moustache that he got out of a Christmas cracker, I reckon.
Argh, they've extended 'Lorraine' show now. Who can bear a week of that?! lol.
I have video chats with friends and they can be great fun, I have one this morning, Sunday, that happens every couple of weeks with a group from my local U3A, they are always good.
Andy
Glad to hear that you have a group meeting as well Andy, they really are great fun, but at the moment a great source of social interaction, which we all need at the present time. Also, learning new things is a joy too, so the U3A is an amazing outlet, and it's good to hear that on certain Sunday mornings, you're having a ball. Please do take care.
