"Tom Moore" (An Acrostic in Honour of Sir Captain (Colonel) Tom Moore)

AuburnScribbler

Through a majestic century, his tender warmth, and his

Outstanding courage, will forever be cemented in our

Minds, to teach us all, that to give, is to live, and that in

Morbid times, even at death’s door, he choose to be

Obstinate to every obstacle, thus lap after lap, we became

Overcome with awe, due to his shining example, his lion’s

Roar, roaring for us all to unite, to fight, so that what we

Enjoy, can still be relished, even though he; takes his final bow.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is an acrostic poem dedicated to the great Sir Captain (Colonel) Tom Moore, who passed away recently at the age of 100, and he is the reason why, that nearly £40 million has been raised for the NHS. Accompanying the poem, is a fantastic piece of digital artwork, by Milton Keynes artist and fundraiser Anthony Staff. I would like to thank you, and salute you Sir Tom, and may you be the toast of Valhalla!

    A fine tribute Tom.
Whoops, a former Vicar of ours had been in the military. Fairly young, but visions of little old ladies marching and standing to attention! With an old 'war wound' he sadly lost a leg about 40 years later.

Thank you orchidee, hope all is well.

Bless your Vicar friend, it sounds like one hell of a story, in fact a story that deserves to be told. Obviously, such exposure would need his permission, but in my opinion, anyone who has fought for us, has a very interesting story to tell, and of course, deserves such a tribute.

To his health, and to yours!

We knows he had whisky or something in the Vicarage cupboard. 'Erm, it's Sunday; I'm not gonna raffle it', he said. 'I'm gonna say - All donations gratefully received for it!' He was very young, not a Colonel-type, not 'shouty'.
