Flimsy Stunners

Fay Slimm.

Flimsy Stunners.

There it hangs weightless and waiting 'til breeze
lifts it's gossamer frame
and silently floats its wonder away.

~

What marvel of strong fragility that tho' covered
with patches of under-down
is intelligently patterned for rigidity.

~

Feather-perfection can when attached raise aloft
any hollow bird-bones when
hovering to heights on outstretched wings.

~

~

Feather-borne fliers skim the sky,

drift on thermals,

quiver in ether,

remain afloat,

dive when keened by fiercest winds,

feel warm throughout chilliest nights

and successfully brood eggs to chicks

by sitting and fluffing downy pinions.

~

~

Extra-smooth tuftedness surrounding dense matter
gives thistledown lightness
of hooked strength to feathermass usefully cladding
birdlife from dove to predator.
~

~

Awed praise for this sight of ineffable beauty within
such flimsy stunners as this.

      'Extra-smooth tuftedness surrounding dense matter
      gives thistledown lightness
      of hooked strength to feathermass'
beautifully worded, one can't help but drift between your lines and get a semblance of that feeling you are so eloquently depicting,
      a great read dear Fay

You have just reminded me of the wonder I felt when examining the first feather I ever came across as a kid, Fay. Comprehensive and fine. I note your marvel at raptors is still strong.

So pleased you got a happy look-back at when you examined your first feather Dave - glad you enjoyed the read and thanks for your welcome comment.

A feather. A singular thing of beauty no human hand could construct.

You refresh this cast off feather of creation with the beauty of your insightful verse. Once again you reintroduce us to the fine construct of purpose all around us. A feather once twirled in our childish hand, long forgotten, gains majesty.

            The wonders of creation.

            • Fay Slimm.

I am delighted you found in my verse on feathers the wonders of creation dear Dusk - there is surely a "fine construct of purpose all around us " and it warms my heart when my words bring a smidgen of truth like this to my readers.......

Wen a white feather appears you know that an angel is there for you.
