All's Going Well

Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
Not absent - still here!
Keep Calm and Carry On Poeming. 😂

These seasoned performers back in the day

Gave a performance I still like to hear.

Tickled my sense of humour all the way,

So forget telling me it’s not Shakespeare.

Fun to listen to and even more fun to read your poem!

    • Doggerel Dave

Thanks Fred. Need to ease up sometimes, have some fun before I go all heavy again.

We all need to ease up once in a while and you are doing it well!

Shakespear was performed as a comedy in its day. There's still a lot of good fun stuff from yesteryear on film and very enjoyable. But stuff like ted ray, arthur haynes, harry worth, charlie drake and morecombe and wise just don't work as funny anymore.

Times move on. Theres a UK tv channel shows old movies and i've tried watching 40's comedy but its banal. To a certain extent, a lot of comedy styles have an expiry date it seems.

So if I read between the lines dusk, you are giving this the thumbs down? Fair enough. I too don't think I could sit with those guys you mention either. But I classify this one as still part of the 'good fun stuff from yesteryear'. Matter of taste, and for me nostalgia as I first heard it as a kid.
I actually prefer cutting edge stand up, which comments on the mores , values of today - that I seek out when I'm after a laugh.

It is amazing what things we see tickle our sense of humour.

Did it not tickle yours, Andy?

I've not seen a proper comedy show since, ooh, about 1978!
On telly they say 'New comedy show coming soon', and show a traiIer. I say 'Where is the comedy?' Laugh? I never even started!
            Stand-up comedians are the worst.

            • Doggerel Dave

Ah orch, you've got the wrong telly. Keep one in Sydney - and be prepared to use the remote in a selective manner.
Your debate properly belongs with dusk - you both need to sort this out between you.
              I know wot I likes....

              • orchidee

I've gone to bed thankfully, when the horror of stand-up comedians show comes on! There's so much rubbish I miss, by not seeing late-night telly! It's a pity I miss it, but there you go.

                • Doggerel Dave

You know...this is hard to admit... but I'm beginning to sympathise (perhaps empathise) with you....
Wrong standups, wrong time of night...

                  • orchidee

Let's get to bed then, and miss that rubbish!

I can't do that - I live upside down on the underside of the earth and time is very different here. Just not possible.

Something light hearted is always welcome both the clip and your poem. I can always use a smile. Thanks Dave.
