Whiskers, you know,
need a good and
regular preening.
Why, I just wouldn't
feel respectable.
I was brought up to be
a proud and clean living
field mouse i'll have you know.
No self respecting rodent
would venture out into
the darkness of night
without whiskers
kept in perfect order.
I know I wouldn't,
I should surely be
all of a shudder
even under the palest moon
without the certain knowledge
that i could safely remain
a whisker away from danger.
Even Roddy the Rat
wouldn't dare venture out
scruffily un-preened.
Appearances, oh yes,
very important you know.
First impressions and all that.
Take Mrs Whiskers now.
She wouldn't have given me
a second glance
had my whiskers been
in poor shape or, heavens forbid,
I'd had a broken whisker or two.
Oh no no no
call me twitchy, if you will,
but my whiskers are my pride.
I try to encourage it
in our two youngsters you know.
Sniff and Scamper are only
three weeks old but
theyre growing fast
and it's never too soon
to learn whisker protocol
and elegance.
I look forward to the day
when safe in the knowledge
they are both sporting
whiskers 'par excellence'
they can bugger off
and find their own
bluddy worms to chew.
Anyhow dear fans.
The dawn has passed
and i'm only scribbling this
to try to defeat this
damned insomnia.
I should be warmly
curled into a nesty ball
with her indoors and
the little 'b'rats... so..
a quick preen and it's
off to sleepy byes
good day/night.

Good write dusk.
I nearly saved a mouse that size from a cat, but was not quick enough. Oh dear!
What a cool story Dusk. Sweet character that Whiskers love him.
I enjoyed the read, dusk.
I fervently hope he does get a good kip, because I wish Freddie (whiskers) Field Mouse would return and indulge in some regular scribbles in order to keep us up to date with his further doings...
Lightened my morning, dusk
Wonderful words d a that took me to another place in these times of sadness.

Brilliant!
Enjoy read, be proud you should. Properly chuckled at the end...
Thank you
Reminds me of men who adorn whiskers as well , and the pride they feel and the hours they spend grooming, waxing etc etc, as can be noticed in historical photos.
Loved the subject and the poem as well.
