Tune: St Bees
('Hark my soul, it is the Lord')
2 Corinthians 8 v.10-15
********
Paul in Corinth did advise
The people there to be wise
in their giving, ready they
Were, thus do so, he did say
If there first be willing mind
It be fair grace, you shall find
In you giving, for it be
Accepted, what you have, see
It not unreasonable
Unto you is not the call
To give that which you have not
But from what you have, your lot
Mot that others eased, while you
Do get into hardships true
Not that you be burdened while
Others have easy lifestyle
But that there equality
And a just sharing shall be
havign enough, share with they
Who do lack, are poor thsi day
Then times may be, they have more
And you yourselves are then poor
Then they help you and privide
Give to you, in you confide
So as it is written, They
That had gathered much that day
had nothing over, and they
Gathering little, no dismay
For they would have no lack, see
It as daily manna be*
If gathered much, did reduce
If little, suffice# produce (# sufficient)
-------
* Manna - in Old Testament days when Israel wandered in the
wilderness, the Lord provided daily manna from heaven -
sort of bread-like. If any gathered too much, some may have melted;
if any gathered too little, some may have expanded.

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 7.7.7.7. metre. I am upset with a previous church. I decided to do a series on 'Giving'. "They" - certain people there - have decided to rebuilding the building, not even 60 years old, and in this current difficult time. What do you think? Pass your thousands on to them - they need over £2 million! And not for the first time of asking. Well, it won't happen if people just have not got the money yet again, will it? St Paul is fair about giving here.

A great superb poem which to me advises to give charity and to not be excessive in any way. The poem is sublime. Kudos.
Plz do read and comment my newest poem too.
Thanks Z.
orchie, I solved the problem of giving this way: When I go to church, I throw all the money into the air and say "God, keep whatever you want. Whatever comes back down is mine."
Thanks Fred. Erm yes, I might try that!
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold. Calm down, Orchi. Note to self: steam coming out me ears!
