Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
I will return early January.
I will return early January.
Their life changed forever and so
Exceptional it was it took
A door stopper to make it look
Like something new, although the row
Of like themed books there meant no fluke.
Was this then something infrequent
Requiring heavy book treatment?
Oh no – it’s just back cover puke:
“The Road Not Taken” – one statement
Of many others: – we all know
Life’s turning points are all the go.
We make a choice and life is bent;
It’s changed forever at that point.
So? Each life’s full of such crossroads.
Those back covers are full of loads
Of spew. That bookshop – what a joint!

Your arrangement of clichés coudl not be bettered Dave - great write and a smile at the end of the read is just what I was needing today.
Thanks Fay - had to dispose of the irritation somehow, and although it hasn't disappeared completely, it's considerably reduced....
What I want to know is, if one has not taken the road, how can one write a book about it? How does the author know?! lol.
I didn't walk the long road. I took a No.7 bus!.
I'm getting a little panicky now - as I read your words, I feel reality tipping and slipping sideways a little orchi.
Wouldn't you like to go back to your hymns? I don't want you to feel unwelcome, but I'm starting to feel terror creeping up on me....
Very much appreciate this poem, Dave. Our lives are full of cliches and myths.
Thanks Fred - this one is particularly irritating, probably as, now sensitised to it, I seem to see it everywhere - even hear it occasionally on radio.
Great cliches Dave but "Life Changed Forever" may be true and we are fed up with hearing it but life changes forever every day as there are always new things that come into it and without them we would not move forward in our lives.
Good inspiring words Dave.
Andy
Agreed Andy. Thanks.
Finally,I'd just like to add that the inclusion of '“The Road Not Taken” should not be interpreted as in any way a denigration of that poem, which, together with Robert Frost, I admire very much.
lost for choice ... dont it just make ya sick eh .......... whatever way one looks at it .. there are bound to be risks along the way .....
the bold font added weight to the kidney punch delivered .... enjoyed sir ...
Thanks Neville - appreciated. Think I've got to be a little more adventurous re fonts......
Not sure what to say. It could change my life forever then I would have wished that I had said something different. Oh well throw caution to the wind, I'll give it a go and throw in my two bits. Loved it Dave.
Thanks Soren. I wrote this after the phrase appeared on the back of book covers, I even heard its use on the radio - think it has calmed down a little now, just one of those of the moment fashionable kneejerk cliches past its use by date....
