Generation, excluded none

A royal priesthood, made a prince

Was since you did believe, become

A holy nation, that your home

God's special people, that you show

Forth His praises, now you Him know

 

The praises of him who has called

You out of darkness, where embroiled

You were, but now He has you brought

To His marvellous light, you sought

 

In time past you not a people

But now people of God you be

One time had not obtained mercy

But now have, forgiven you be

    Well done orchie, but tell me what were we in times past if we were 'not people'? That line intrigues me.

      Thanks Fred. I see it as meaning, we were not God's people at one time. When we are saved, we become one of His people. It might read better if I put 'not a people' instead of 'were not people'. I will amend it, I think.
