Tune: Morning Hymn
('Awake my soul, and with the sun')
Matthew 6 v.1-4
********
Take heed that you do not do your
Giving to be seen of men sure
Your alms and charitable deeds
what you do plant, they goodly seeds
For if you give to be seen by
Men, your reward from you shall fly
For them you have no reward from
Your Father in heaven, no, none
When you give alms, sound not trumpet
To draw attention to you yet
For hypocrites they do so, to
Have glory from people anew
That be their reward, but when you
Give alms, do not let left hand view
What right hand does, so shall you see
Your Father reward openly

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. metre. Watch out for any who get trumpets out during the collection/offertory in church then! It may not mean giving only money. The hymn in the clip has 10 verses in some hymn books!

Good morning read, Orchi.
Thanks Jerry.
There are many mornings when reading this would be an appropriate start for my day. Thank you.
Thanks T.
Is that why you give to your church in a brown paper bag?
Thanks Fred. Yes, me trumpet's in the bag too! lol.
Great Write there orchidee. To be a charitable yet secret giver is a great giver indeed. Don
Thanks Don.
And when the pastor/father knows he is asking the poor to contribute in the full knowledge that he is employed by the wealthiest organisation on the planet (the roman catholic church) what does it make the pastor/father. An employed thief or a conman?
Probably comes under that category said by Jesus Himself: hypocrite.
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
