Reflection

mrbleasdale

As I lie in my room staring up at sky

I think of today and the hours gone by

The steps that I took, the moves that I made

Stepped out to the light and away from the shade

Today is the day that I recognise myself

As I dust off my troubles, and get off that shelf

I know who I am and where I want to be

After so many years, I’m here finally.

But don’t get me wrong, the journeys just beginning

I’m not saying the craziness has suddenly stopped spinning

But I have found some peace in myself just today

As lie on bed, ready to hit the hay

For tomorrow I look forward with excitement and dreams

No longer going to sleep trying to drown out the screams

So tomorrow shall come and I will stand tall.

Thinking more of the climb and less of the fall.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Today after 12 months of lockdown, recovering from a coma and what feels like a life time of trauma and darkness. I went back to work, in a good job, and back on a good career track and I have felt more at peace today than I have in a long time. Today I go to be looking forward to tomorrow. So I marked it with a poem

I don't think there is a soul on this planet that can't resonate with those words - I wish you all the best on your climb, and the inevitable falls to come as well; that is the nature of life. I like the importance you place on the climb over the fall.

Such a beautiful message thank you.

I wanted the poem to show that I am not boasting that I’m all better now just because things are good... there’s still the journey the climb and as you say there will be falls
