If you can’t explain things, are not good at expressing yourself
It’s as if a shadow hovers behind you
Changing what you’re thinking into something completely different in words
Words that spill from your lips and are heard
Words you really hadn’t meant in your head or your heart
But they’re out there.
And the damage is done.
We have no control over how these words are received
No amount of protest takes them back
No reasoning
No explanation
No defence
Does that make it your fault?

I think it quite possibly does. And I state this as someone who expresses things clumsily sometimes and is misinterpreted, even as “Oh, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good, please don't let me be misunderstood”
Beyond the old advice ‘think before you speak’, if truly the situation is ‘No amount of protest takes them back, No reasoning, No explanation. No defence - then you need to find new friends and acquaintances.
We all say things we hadn't meant to in our lives but we can apologise for them and move on, if people do not accept your apology that is their problem, not yours.
