Miracle

Miracle

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle.

The other is as though everything is a miracle.”    Albert Einstein

we live on and are surrounded by

the greatest miracle of all

the existence of earth and life

an unlikely impossible long shot

like winning the lottery at

odds of billions to one

like hitting the league winning

ninth inning full base home run

this miracle entails everything

visible, invisible, matter, thought

unfortunately most of us never

think of earth in this manner

we take everything for granted

go about our daily business

without thought, without gratitude

assuming that we deserve this world

or even worse, that we own it

when in reality we are only guests

uninvited and barely tolerated

by this universe, the real owner

take away the blindness, unplug the ears,

expand the mind, open the heart and

experience this miracle we call earth

with all your senses and intellect

lose yourself in its beauty and serenity

dance to the sound of the wind and ocean

feel its power and awesomeness

embrace its uniqueness and

realize that we too are an insignificant

but beautiful part of this miracle

Hey Fred – you come down on the side of Albert’s second supposition in a well argued fine-looking poetic construction. And I got into that and really wanted to believe.
However I must vote for his first proposition, basically because we don’t know. That’s why it’s easier to take the miracle approach – but for me not necessarily the one I’d choose. It might well be that life forms are universal across the universe (to use a clunky phrase) and further are not about to completely stuff up their lovely Earths like this, the one you so revere.
    Enjoyable read, though.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Dave! I have to agree with you that life forms most likely are numerous across the universe. I do not believe we are the only ones. But even though I still believe that earth and live are not only a long shot, but also a miracle, just like all the others.

So very true Fred, we live in the miracle of life and you and I have both lived it for quite a long time and still savour it.

Thanks Andy, yes I do savour it. And more so the older I get. Don't know how long I will still be around.

        Good write Fred.
You won that lottery? More chance of seeing pigs fly?! heehee.

        • FredPeyer

Thanks orchie, never won a lottery, never saw a pig fly, but I did see some flying fish!

Wholeheartedly agree with your stand on why we benefit from seeing ourselves as part of totality Fred - - I second the thought that miracles are everywhere on this wondrous planet and am danding now to the sound of the wind and feeling its power..... great read.
