of Disparity

L. B. Mek

Notice of absence from L. B. Mek
'fare ye well' kind friends

2021, March 22nd a Monday

happens to be: World Water Day

and each one of us

striving to survive, lost

in our first-world laments

will use, enough drinkable water

between our showers

washed cutlery or clothes

and flushed toilets;

in a single, week

to save, thousands

of the world’s

most dehydrated

and emaciated, children

just a thought...

No, these words aren’t designed

to sabotage your day

or belittle our personal struggles

just, a little reminder

to help us all realise

that we

are truly, some of the lucky ones

in existence

and hopefully, help us remember

those gifts

we take for granted: in every sip...

So very true Mek, we are so fortunate in our lives but those without water can be helped if only those in power would climb down from their ivory towers and see the real world.

    Andy

    • L. B. Mek

how very true Andy, but you see
water is the gateway to budding fruits, and those fruit's quickly create a legacy, as testament to tangible results of overcome struggles
and if people have a heritage of fruit's born from actualised dreams, then they'll understand: they too can conquer and oppress...
so how best to limit those pesky fruit's before they've even bud, let alone produced seeds of hope and ambition, simple really
destroy their heritage, so they constantly begin without a roadmap to success and limit: their access
to water's capacity for nurturing limitless possibility...
'for it takes a lot of design
      and collective: will
      to supress others for centuries
      and still hide
      all those tell-tell fingerprints'

      Good write LB.

You touched on and reminded us of one of this world's most important problem in your well written poem. Water and food! We are indeed lucky!

      • L. B. Mek

yup, that's exactly how I hoped these words would be received, as a reminder: nothing more, but nothing less either..
thanks for the supportive comment dear poet

      • Fay Slimm.

A fine reminder and well expressed in your verse ;here L.B. - - we are truly fortunate with gifts like fresh water to drink while across the ocean its lack causes suffering - to sponsor a well-dig for a small village is one way to help - - thank you for bringing World Water Day more to our attention my friend.

        • L. B. Mek

somehow I feel humanity's story begins and ends with water, as nature exemplifies daily, so if the best we can do is raise awareness or 'sponsor a dig' (as you so thoughtfully informed), then we should try and hope others with a greater capacity for influence, will also try..
thanks for your informative and supportive comment dear Fay

In a world that has abundance it is truly sad that our beautiful minds and talent still don't create balance before fashion or the next gadgets to be had.

Saddest human fact we struggle to learn until its gone!

Always a fantastic reminder to see how privileged most of us are, even with mental battle scars.

          • L. B. Mek

yup, we are all children of consequence for both good and bad
maybe all that's being asked of us in life
is to simply struggle to overcome, the bad
while learning to nurture and maximise: the good,
thanks for the insightfully succinct commentary dear poet and for inspiring my little scribbled reply,
            ('Balance: First'
a worthy tag line for an empathetically: just
            capitalist democracy
            we can all, share proudly)..
            'maybe one day
            for while there's breath
our dreams may still be realised
            even if we're only fated
            to scribble a few lines
on that chapter of change, born
            from our legacy of hope
            for a future, that promises
            a little better'
