Tune: St Theodulph
('All glory, laud, and honour')
Matthew 21 v.1-11 parts
*********
Chorus
See, Jesus rides a donkey
In great humility
The procession makes its way
Unto [Jeru]Salem that day
All this was done, that it might
Be viewed unto the sight
Fulfilling of prophecy
Zechariah's it be - Chorus
It is, Tell Zion's daughter
That the Lord has sought her
Her king comes unto her, meek
Lowly, her love does seek - Chorus
He sitting on a donkey
Rides on through the crowd free
And donkey's colt, company
That day in history - Chorus
Great multitudes spread garments
In the way, they did sense
Their Lord and their King's presence
As He journeyed on thence - Chorus
Some cut down branches from palms
Waved them, as giving alms
Or spread them in the road there
In worship they did share - Chorus
They all did cry, Hosanna* (*'Save now')
To son of David sure
Blessed He that comes in the name
Of the Lord, Christ the same - Chorus
Hosanna in the highest
Thus their lips they confessed
Jesus the prophet is He
One from Nazareth, see - Chorus

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem with verse and chorus in 7.7.7.7. metre. The hymn in the clip is by St Theodulph, c.750 - 821 AD. So the 1,200th anniversary this year of his passing away. 'Hosanna' is 'Save now, Lord'; 'rescue us'; etc. It is a shout of praise, with more meaning than 'Hurrah' or 'Yippee'.
