Borne To Burial

Tune: Passion Chorale

('O sacred head, sore wounded')

John 20 v.38-42

*********

Friday evening, desolate

Believers mournful state

Christ dies for our salvation

Reaches to each nation

What would follow, mystery?

Would they again Him see?

Even as He has spoken

He would die, rise again

Then Joseph, a disciple

Secretly was he all

For fear of the Jews, but he

Boldly asked Pilate, see

That he might take the body

Of Jesus, and humbly

Give dignified burial

He did not falter, fall

And too Nicodemus did

Help, his faith now not hid

They took mixture of spices

Of myrrh and aloes  (a-o-lees)

Body of Jesus bound they

With linen cloths that day

Along with the spices, for

This the Jews manner sure

The manner, how they buried

Their own people, their dead

In place of crucifixion

There was a garden one

Therein there was a tomb new

They laid Him there, did view

Him at peace, Preparation

Day* was for their nation
