Another Time

CLM

Think nothing of it,
I’ve felt that pain before.
I’ve cried the same tears,
I’ve shut the same door.
So many times I’ve felt,
The cold I never deserved.
So many times I’ve dealt,
With words put out to unnerve.
It doesn’t even hurt,
No longer does it burn.
When I think it’s all figured out,
I find a new lesson to learn.
I guess I just don’t get it,
Never have, never will.
So I think back on another time,
Where a broken heart was all I could feel.
Asking myself why,
What could I possibly have done?
Now I realize it was never me,
There was just no place to run.
Tear stains on my pillow,
Crying in the dark.
Who could have known that so much pain,
Could emerge from that little spark.
I’m done with that now,
No more crying, no more tears.
At least that’s what I tell myself,
Passing the hours, days, and years.
