Goldfinch60

Why does it happen?

Where does the time go?

I only picked up the book,

Picked it up to finish a chapter

But I became hooked once more,

Pulled into the words on the page.

The time just flew by

As the story pulled me in once more,

I just had to read some more.

I looked at the clock

And I was late,

Late in getting up from my normal hour.

It is the power that some words have,

Have over me,

And if I had stayed in bed any longer

These words would not be here,

Be here on this page

For you all to read.

    Good write Gold.
I'm not a fast reader, but we can fairly soon read a 300 page book. We may think it will take ages. Depends on the size of the pages and word spacing too!
You read that Domesday Book? You found the entries for you and I in it? Is my unfortunate even with Harold in it?!

      Thanks Orchi.
Both your error at Hastings and the years delay for the Magna Carta are in the Domesday book.

Oops how is the Magna Carta event 1215/1216 (?) in this Book (c.1086)?!
In a Carry On Film of Henry VIII (1491-1547) Guy Fawkes and his gang appears (1605)!!

One of my pleasure is to lose myself in a book in surroundings strange to me such as on holiday sat in the sun or shade if very hot. So relaxing, the complete removal of reality and venturing into a mind created environment.... escapism.

So true d a, I have just finished the book, I don't normally read on a Saturday morning but this one had to be finished and I was not disappointed - except that it had finished.

OK, what was it? What do you normally read?

            • Goldfinch60

The books I used to read were novels by Desmond Bagley, Alistair McClean, Wilbur Smith, Clive Cussler, Frederick Forsyth ( I read The Day of the Jackal in one go), Peter James and so many authors of the same genre but recently I have changed.

I am reading romantic fiction and have been reading books by Fiona Valpy (read all her books, waiting for the next one to come out in September) and Amanda Prowse, the one that hooked me was her book An Ordinary Life.

I cannot explain why I have had this change in my reading.

Wonderful Andy. Some authors have that ability to hold you hostage within their pages and only release you when they're ready to. For me that author is the late Clive Cussler. Read on my friend.

So true AP, I have read all the Clive Cussler books but my reading has changed see my reply to dusk arising.

I've read nearly all the Dirk Pitt adventures, but have continued to collect as many of his other books as well so that when I'm retired I can start on them. And most of my books are hardcovers.

Yup, words are a powerful tool. Nice work Andy.

Thank you John, yes words are so powerful.
