Peter's Progress

Tune: St Fulbert

('Ye choirs of new Jerusalem')

John 21 v.15-19

*******

A time for Peter, three times he

Did deny Jesus, see

But now by shore of Galilee

He would there restored be

Jesus asked him three times, did say

Do you love me today?

Peter replied, Yes, Lord, you know

That I do love you so

Peter, my lambs and my sheep feed

Unto flock take good heed

I prophesy now unto you

What shall for you come true

When you were young, you did go where

You would, went here and there

But when you are old, you shall be

Bound by others, not free

And they shall take you where you would

Not go, for if you could

You may escape, though signifies

Jesus how Peter dies

It would be unto God's glory

He would follow Him, see

Unto death, having a hope fine

Resurrection divine
