Plain Prayer

Tune: Genesis

('Think of a world without any flowers')

Matthew 6 v.5-15 parts

*********

When you pray, be not hypocritical

They love to pray to be seen by all

Standing in synagogues, and street corners

That people praise on them each confers

Jesus says, Truly, they have their reward there

They have it now, no more in which to share

But when you pray, your inner room go in

Shut door, pray to your Father therein

Do so in secret, and your Father sees

In secret, rewards you open, free

But when you pray, use not vain repetition

As some do, endless reciting each one

Such think they shall be heard for much speaking

Be not like them, repeating each thing

For your Father knows what things you do need

Before you ask Him, yet will you heed

After this manner pray you thus, the 'Lord's Prayer'

Children with father, humbly sharing there

Our Father, who are in in heaven, hallowed be

Your name, your kingdom come, may we see

Your will be done in earth as it is done

In heaven, each deed and word, each one

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive

As we forgive others, so may we live

And lead us not into temptation sure

Deliver us from evil, for yours

Is the kingdom, the power, and glory

For ever, Amen, e'er it shall be

If we forgive, you Father will us forgive

If not, our forgiveness you not give
