Thatch

Neville

Thatch

As pretty

as it may well be

tis so hard to maintain

tho warm it be in winter

and how dry it be in rain ….

The quaintness of thatch though pretty seems to have lost its place around here too and with these days of ruthless pollution needs regular maintaining - so methinks I will stay with slate..............x

I don't know, maybe not quite - thatch
but I still - reach, for soundtracks: of rain falling on tin roofs
            when I can't sleep,
a lingering legacy of my childhood's idolised memories, I think...
a wonderful shorty, it let me travel back in time
such a sweet gift, in a read

            • Neville

... we all need such memories don't we my friend ... and on that note sir, I thank thee no end .......

If you have a thatch, don’t light a match!

Just kidding, what is a thatch made of.??
Palm , bamboo , or banana leaves.
I swear there’s nothing up my trees!

Thatch is good for postcards and chocolate box lids .. I was not even meant to burn candles or oil lamps ... but I did occasionally .... mine was made of water reed .. tis the most expensive and does not require netting ... thank you my very sweet friend ... darn good to see ya too ..

Ha ha... and here I have wished I had a thatch roof all my life, just for the romance. Here in the US of A we use metal or those nasty shingles made of tar and grit... I have experienced a tropical storm on a thatched roof and loved the way it softens the blow and drip for hours after. I put on a metal roof 40 years ago and it will certainly outlast me... It's only romantic when it rains. Slate is too dear here darn it.

You are quite right jarcher54 .. thatch looks lovely when new and can be very effective against the elements ... storms though are something else .. and insects and animals .. yes animals and birds do find them cozy places to set up home themselves ... mine was made of water reed, supposedly the best as it does not require netting and birds usually leave it alone .... thanks for checking in my friend, much appreciated ..

So beautiful to see but one wonders about the problems there may well be.

I can feel the breeze, that blew in with your words

                    • Neville

............... Bless you my friend ... the wind, or more specifically the increasing prevalence of strong storms is but one of the reasons why we eventually decided to sell ... Many thanks for visiting and considering my little scribble ................
