The Earth Worm-a sonnet

Dove

She crawls out from the earth when it does rain

the earth worm just trying to exist within

To make it to safety, doesn't complain

Inching about with a wormy like grin

Wiggling her body just moves along

If you see her crossing, please be kind

Don't ever think of doing her some harm

She fertilizes your soil most times

Poor little creature used as fishing bait

Hooked on a  fishing hook and then swallowed

Poor little earth worm, oh such a fate

When living underground does she wallow

The worm is a blessing to Mother Earth

So please be kind and know an earth worms worth

Agree with each line of your tribute to this wriggly gardener's friend - - what a needed and powerful soil sifter the worm - great that you personify this underground life and love that last couplet dear Dove

A righteous cause, Dove. Publicised as a sonnet to boot, a form which looks quite scary.
You have elevated (wrong direction for a worm, but you know what I mean :-)) to it's rightful place in the scheme of things.

Thank you kindly Dave, much appreciated

I've not sacrificed a Earth Worm on a hook for about 55 years now. The fish rather appreciated it too I'm sure. Nicely written Dove. ; )

Yes, they deserve THIS sonnet. It's not quite a classic sonnet, but it is sincere and respectful. I always rescue the poor worms that end up squirming to escape drowning in a puddle or container after a rain shower... I laughed when you refer to your particular worm as "she." As you probably know, technically earthworms are hermaphroditic. Thanks for posting this...

Thank you, yes I rescue many of earthworms when possible! Glad my she reference made you smile! 😀

I agree with you two too .. I mean both you n Fay .. after all, a worm is for life, not just for Christmas and weekends ..

Hehe Life of a earth worm! Thank you kindly! I rarely see them, just on rainy days!

The humble earthworm was not created to become hooked bait ot abused. No fish was harmed or starved in the writing of this comment LOL

Silly you! I feel guilty eating fish! Lol but I stay away from worms
