Prayer Possibles

Tune: Spiritus Vitae

('O breath of life, come sweeping through us')

Mark 11 v.22-24

********

Jesus said, Have faith in God, for, see

Whosoever shall say, so be

To a mountain, be you now removed

Be cast into sea, faith is proved

Whether ranging from fig tree to mount

Whate'er size of problem we count

It can be changed through faith, but doubt not

In heart, if it small or large lot

If we shall believe that those things we

Say shall come to pass, we shall see

Shall have whatever we say, praying

The Lord shall give us each good thing

So, what things we desire when we pray

Believe that we receive them, lay

Needs all before the Lord, and we shall

Too be provided by Him well

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 9.8.9.8. metre. In this Rogation-tide. We might not move many literal fig trees or mountains (!), but I have sought to know the meaning for us today, behind Jesus' words here.

Strangely enough, I have only very recently re-planted a fig tree from the original tree my great grandfather grew from seed .. I was first given a cutting when I left home, got married and bought a house..

I have climbed plenty of mountains since then, but never yet moved or planted a single one ..........

      Thanks N.
Ooh, I've given up fig roll biscuits. They're fatal for...... let's just say they move the, erm, mountains. TMI (Too Much Info) to say more. Just think syrup of figs.

When you sing does Fido howl out a melody for your next hymn/verse?

Thanks dusk. Yes he does. And when I sing, it's as another verse says: 'They said to the mountains and hills, Fall upon us to hide us' - from me singing!
