Ascension Alleluias

orchidee

Tune: Llanfair

('Hail the day that sees Him rise')

Acts 1 v.3-11 parts

**********

At the great Ascension-tide - Alleluia!

Forty days seen, not denied - Alleluia!

The risen Christ did appear - Alleluia!

Disciples did see Him there - Alleluia!

They would receive power sure - Alleluia!

The Spirit with them e'ermore - Alleluia!

Christ would send Him, we witness - Alleluia!

To all ends of earth no less - Alleluia!

Then they beheld Him, and lo - Alleluia!

A cloud received Him, was so - Alleluia!

He was taken up, they saw - Alleluia!

Him there in person no more - Alleluia!

While they looked up, two in white - Alleluia!

Clothing appeared shining bright - Alleluia!

Said, You men of Galilee - Alleluia!

Why your gaze to heaven still be? - Alleluia!

This same Jesus, ascended - Alleluia!

He o'ercame, risen from dead - Alleluia!

Taken up to heaven, we say - Alleluia!

Shall return one day same way - Alleluia!

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 7.7.7.7. metre for Ascension Day, today, Thursday (40 days after Easter Day). The words in the clip vary a little from the original, but the variations don't spoil the hymn. 'Only' 20 Alleluias this time.

I thought about you singing these alleluias at the top of your voice and passed out.

Thanks Neville. Gravity-defying, though rising from the dead is defying a human limitation too.
You knowing the full hymn name - Llanfair-gogo-wotsit? Ooh, I dunno it! lol.
