Persevering People

Tune: Taize Chant

('O Lord, hear my prayer')

Hebrews 12 v.12-15

***********

Go on in the race

Helped sure by God's grace

Each step His mercies trace

Lift up drooping hands

Strengthen weak knees bands

Believers of all lands

Make straight path for feet

So find His ways sweet

In Him be whole, complete

Lest you lame become

And be hindered some

in sensing God, be numb

But let it be healed

And be with this sealed

Pursue peace, unconcealed

Follow in that way

With all folk today

And be watching and pray

And holiness too

Pursue, keep in view

For 'tis so, this you know

Without holiness

The Lord, we confess

We shall not see, not blest

Look diligently

Lest any fail, see

Of the grace of God free

Lest any root spring

Of bitterness' thing

And troubles to you bring

For it sure may spread

If you are misled

Path of bitterness tread

And so then many

Defiled, corrupt be

Sharing acrimony

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 5.5.6. 5.5.6. metre. Too much repetition is not always my cup of tea. It can depend on what's being repeated - meaningful, positive, etc; or dull, dreary, boring, etc. Taize is a particular form of song. But I'm always repeating them Alleluias!
