Salvation In The Saviour

Tune: Anima Christi

('Soul of my Saviour, sanctify my breast')

Colossians 2 v.20-23

*********

Man's rules and rituals, they cannot bring

Us salvation, ineffective each thing

That they try, maintain, profess so to do

Salvation is found in Christ, His life new

Though human laws for safety and good be

Such as, Touch not, Taste not, handle not, see

Yet laws are broken, the commands of men

And the doctrines, teachings, which they appoint then

These things indeed have a show, appearance

Of wisdom in will worship, seen from thence

It self-imposed religion, and seeming

Humility trying its best to wing

And too neglecting of the body, see

Asceticism, severe treatment be

Inflicted on us by ourselves to try

To win some salvation here by and by

It not giving our bodies some easing

Nor honouring them, suppressing each thing

Of desire, delight of our human frame

Though no value, humans still indulge same

In Christ we be free from doctrines of men

Their plans cannot assist us at times when

We tempted our salvation to earn, win

It only in Christ, He forgives our sin
