Rokhsana
Although her underskirt was crimson
and her scarlet stockings were then torn …
…
She was still by far, more beautiful than
very many others, on the day that she was stoned …

Only 'alleged' and yet stoned - a terrible state.
I can't meet her, unfortunately 🙁
yep .. only alleged .. a terrible state of affairs and true 🙁
What a terrible custom Nev. - and so widely used for eons by many cultures - - - being stoned often meant a very slow death -- merely alleged of a crime yet courageously out-spoken was young Rokhsana - hoping your caring post will rouse readers to ever remember with flagrant empathy that beautiful name.
.................... thank you kindly Fay ... and that's precisely what the world needs more of isn't it .. kindness, empathy, tolerance, justice and of course love n peace ...................... x
Maybe the world was not ready for true beauty. Maybe it is still not ready. Maybe injustice justifies the existence of some.
How many lines occupy the story of rokhsana, how many missing lines occupied her truth.
........................................................... I dunno, who knows ... I only hope a few might care .. thanks DA ::)
Amen!
a write of such empathy, displayed proudly
exemplifying: with unwavering sincerity...!
I read and learn, my friend
..................................................... too kind and then some ................. thank you L.B
Short sharp shock there, Neville... read piece first. Your comment only caused the switch.
In your words - Not everything is what it seems. Universal truth there, but in this case it certainly focused attention on something I find difficult to think about.
................................... thanks for popping in and sticking with me DD, it aint all sugar hearts n spice is it mate ...
No Neville, it ain't.
Such an awfully sad poem Neville, only alleged but still stoned to death, if it was a man I bet the Afghans would not have stoned him!!
