Notice of absence from L. B. Mek
'fare ye well' kind friends
'fare ye well' kind friends
Ashes of laughter, love and regrets
forever enclosed, in that blackened tower
that once stood tall
in depths of weary hearts, as a landmark
safety cocoon, sheltering threadbare hopes
that they run back to, all their lives
till that ill-fated sight: in the furnace of a June night
when sirens – screamed: London’s skies, bright
with the horror of their plight.

Sickeningly we hear the loud voice of money speak when there are still many lives endangered by similar inflammable claddings which wealthy landlords will not pay to replace.
Amen!
thanks for the supportive comment Dusk
'sickeningly': indeed, truly
Luxury attained by greed at any cost
No matter how horrifically innocent lives are lost.
The owners, the developers, the contractors have to be held accountable, for stealing so much laughter that your pen has painfully recited.
maybe one day, dear poet
we can but hope
really appreciate your insightful commentary
thanks for the support
we all to oft say it should never happen ... sadly tho' .. all to oft it does ..
and ain't that the nucleus of truth
that makes this whole case
so depressingly infuriating...!
thank you for the wise words, dear poet
Four years later and it is still not settled and those dangerous towers have still not been repaired.
Andy
its just so crazy to me, really
when you think that this flats
already house some of the most desperate
in our society, to think anyone would choose
to add to their suffering, over cladding
of all things?
Literally, creating fire trap conditions
that would be described as war crimes/atrocities
on any battlefield
to penny pinch on cladding?
Endangering hundreds of thousands of children?
Truly, its beyond comprehension
lets just hope fate shows mercy
and this never happens again.
Thanks Andy
Sad reflection on life’s tragedies
Wonderful write!
very sad, indeed it was written only a week or so
after that tragic night, and very much
in a mournful and reflective frame of mind..
appreciate you taking the time to comment, dear poet
