Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
Not absent - still here!
Keep Calm and Carry On Poeming. 😂

Dispute debate, or free exchange of view

Sits in no way lightly on his shoulders;

Challenged by difference – threat of the new!

All wisdom his, he’s one of the holders.

Perhaps each of us holds some kind of truth,

But a small piece only you need to know.

The pain, the threat worse than an aching tooth:

Not Master of the Universe? OH NO!!

Everyone has a point of view. That's what makes this world fun, friendly and fearsome! Btw Sranley Holloway rocks!

    • Doggerel Dave

Doesn’t, though does it, Sax? People with opinions send people to war, people with opinions allow them to do it. People with opinions allow all manner of injustice on grounds that the perpetrators have the right because the victims are ‘losers’….etc. Now if you wish to debate this then let’s make it serious, rational. The world is not fun for much of the world right now. Wake up.
BTW: Agreed - I like Stanley Holloway too, especially his monologues. This, meant as merely trimmings around the main message, is the chorus of a much longer music hall effort (which can be found on Utube), but was not used as the recording was of poor quality.

Re read my comment i do believe I also wrote fearsome. Opinions arent the issue its peoples interpretation and reactions to said opinions. Everyone has a point of view be it based on the need for social conformity, information based on facts or fiction or from personal experience. But that is just my opinion based on a personal view point which is always subject to change and therefore not as accepted truth for anyone else

We all hold our own truths and they may all be different truths but we believe in them.

        • Doggerel Dave

Oh come on Andy, by now you should know I wouldn't let you go with that. Where's your learning curve? 😊
They are not necessarily truths - that is the point. And my argument is that we should see them as provisional, and be able to modify and adjust whenever evidence to the contrary comes our way.
As an aside, I can honestly state that in any debate, discussion or whatever I'm quite happy to be proven wrong - because then I've learnt something. No problem. If I'm right , I've learnt nothing.

Truth is based on knowledge, and as knowledge expands so does our beliefs change, that’s why it’s always good to have an open mind, but it hurts less when you know how to duck.
          Very enjoyable indeed

Thanks Suresh. Not a lot to debate there - You've mostly covered it, I think. My point, as you obviously see, is that for far too many people their model of the world and the way it works is fixed, doesn't change and they feel threatened by any evidence contrary to theirs.
Further, and I could write another boring screed about this, folks don't have much insight into how they acquired their 'knowledge' and formed their opinions either.

... there is indeed truth here .. somewhere, maybe

            ............................................... enjoyed 🙂

There is no truth it changes each day
If only people would this realize
Then there would be no fights with what people say
And there would be no more black eyes.
            Loved the song.

Thanks for the exhumation, Soren - it was nice to visit, as I'd almost forgotten about this write, though not the sentiment behind it... and you know a rhymer is always welcome as a bonus,
