Tree of Souls

Neville

Tree of Souls

While each

stout branch

of the tree of souls

casts

heavy shadows

all around

But oh’ so

very lightly …

Those self-same

swollen,

stricken limbs

dance blind ..

Clutching air

and raising

questions long

not asked …

But always asking

them politely

Who teaches

baby birds to sing

and why do

starlings murmur

Who turns

the stars on each

night ..

and why do lovers

rarely

want to sleep

Yet babies

almost always

choose to slumber …

Yes we know next to no answers to the questions raised in this excellent piece of metaphor Nev - -- life is a sweet mystery at best and stars twinkle because who knows - - why indeed do birds start to sing in mating season and same goes for lovers who go without sleep when urges plague dreams- An inspired expression is "Tree of Souls" for we are all under the cover of heavily branched ignorance and Nature is keeping its secrets despite our wanting to know a bit more. - wow - - just look what your write roused in my mind...........x

Far too deep for my extremely literal mind, Neville....except is it not possible that the last six lines are the key to the rest of them.....? 😊

Wonderful words Neville, the questions are always there within us, many get answered but there are always those waiting for an answer.
