When people look at paintings where,
They don’t recognise the form,
The thought that comes from in them says;
“But is this really art?”
Can they not see the idea that
The artist tries to show?
Why don’t they open up their minds
And think of what they see.
So when I write words on the page
That neither rhyme nor scan
The thought may therefore come to some
“But is it poetry?”

Well it all depends on how you say it i reckon.
Very good point well made GF
Thank you SC, yes it just depends.

So true, the average person has no interest beyond the obvious in art or poetry. Indeed very few seem to appreciate poetry. Most seem to expect rhyme.... and say it cant be poetry if it doesn't rhyme.
I think the most of us on mps are far broader minded than that
Thank you d a, yes hear on MPS most have that broader mind.

Good write Gold.
Now me poem - 'But is it singing?' (by me). Answer: Nope!
Thanks Orchi.
Yes, Andy. Just because I prefer rhyme and the rest doesn't mean I don't enjoy unstructured stuff (although no rhymes present doesn't mean it doesn't have any structure or cohesion). Whether I enjoy depends on the skill of the writer and the content - all very subjective judgments.
So true Dave we all have that feeling of enjoyment or not in any piece of writing.

I’ve seen a blank canvas in a recognized gallery, displayed as art, so who shall claim that a Scribble is not poetry, btw - this is poetry
Thank you suresh.

A poet is the author of the poetry, as the appreciative viewer is also a poet because of the effect it had upon them. Hence the saying, "It takes one to know one". Well written and thought provoking Andy. ; )
Thank you AP, much appreciated.
