The Relaxing Pitter-Patter on the Conservatory Roof

AuburnScribbler

EON has sent me the wrong bill again,

thus, it becomes the source of strain,

wanting to burn their office block down,

to take away the need to wear a frown,

then the rain adds to the “complaint”,

but then I see that dome of restraint,

my nightmare ceases, replaced by glorious truth,

via the pitter-patter on the conservatory roof.

I check my email, but nothing’s there,

no reward for my interest, it isn’t fair,

so, I think of massacre; to those employers,

who choose to ignore, they desist like lawyers,

as my fire rises, clouds cascade once more,

to remind me, of a soon to be open door,

thus, I try to be level-headed, and use it as proof,

via the pitter-patter on the conservatory roof.

The radio and the box, blare out more dirt,

either it be Covid/Brexit, all things that hurt,

where is that hammer? So, I can vent, by smashing,

at a world that has me; and my teeth gnashing,

but again, the weather modifies, to make me calm,

instead of a clenched fist, I open to a peaceful palm,

though a change is still needed, I will retire to that booth,

to enjoy the relaxing pitter-patter; on the conservatory roof!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Sometimes things enrage us, and we say things rather macabre in the heat of the moment. I live in the UK, and in the past couple of days, the habitual changing weather has been like my mood sometimes, but then I remember a simple tool that I have used, in order to calm down. Sitting in my conservatory; and just listening to the relaxing pitter-patter of the rain upon it's roof. The accompanying cover picture, is what I feel like after a "conservatory session". To me this works wonders sometimes, but I am curious, what do all of you do to calm down? I hope that you enjoy the poem, and as always, please stay safe everyone.

I can understand where you come from Ben,I too have a conservatory roof and am often found in there but my choice of relaxation is music, I listen to it all the time, especially in the evenings before I go to bed.

Thanks for the read Andy, and I am glad to hear that you are fellow conservatory person.

I too on some nights; relax via some nice soothing tunes as well, but if the rain does occur, and the power happens to go out, the sound of that pitter-patter can be quite the thing.

Thanks again, and I hope that all is well!

I think everyone goes through this from time to time Ben. I myself have a tough time staying calm when faced with ill confrontations. Usually I try to remember that it's a choice I make, to be angry or calm. And with calmness comes clarity. Clarity to see through things realistically and sort it out. Great write here Ben. ; )

Thanks for the read Accidental Poet, and yes I can appreciate what you've said, in life, you have to take the rough with smooth, otherwise there would be no coping mechanisms, and thus there would be no such thing as strength in character, but thank goodness there is!

Thanks again, and I hope that all is well!

All these bleeders wiv conservatories.... Wait 'til I get their addresses...
Point well made AS - too many things to get riled up about in life; so chill (After I've sorted them conservatories....)

          • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Doggerel Dave, and I will from now on, consider myself a "conservatory bleeder!" Haha!

Yes, there are so many things that get us riled up, but I hope as part of our evolution, that over time, endeavouring to minimise those things; becomes a second nature.

As you've said, I will try to chill, and good luck sorting out those conservatories. Haha!

Thanks again, and I hope that all is well!

            • Doggerel Dave

Nah - I's me that should chill, AS. But there will be no escape...my patented heat seeking missile will find you in the end.... 😊
